Mark's True Again

I "stumbled" across this post today from Mark True of REL Productions.  If you read it, you'll understand why I couldn't resist commenting on it.

I think Iowa has so many great people living in the State; there is no reason not to create more superstars.  I meet with roughly 10 new people a week... each one of them have great skill sets and awesome stories.  Don't get me wrong though, I don't want to take anything away from the gentlemen in Mark's post.  They've done amazing things and should be commended, however, there are business people doing amazing things to that don't get as much recognition as is deserved.  No big deal though... it will come.

I guess my point (if there is one) is that Iowa is doing great things and will continue to do so.  I'll keep preaching that until someone proves me wrong... Or I get sick of a place that's loaded with opportunity and has great things ahead of it... whichever one comes first.

Adam:

I've been negligent in my blog reading, and just today found your post.

Don't worry, we're on either end of the same scrimmage line, bud. We're going for the same goal!

My post was not about those celebrities from Iowa...it was about how irrelevant they are to any message designed to keep young Iowans here. Why use people who left the state to motivate others to STAY here? It just doesn't make a lick of sense, and it's a waste of money. Besides, I think governor Culver has more important things to do than be the state's chief creative director (but that's another post).

If I may be so bold, this is what I think you and I are both saying: We should quit spending money trying to KEEP young people in the state...there are some really good ones already making the choice to stay here and the others are likely to return when they realize what's here.

There are hundreds of better ways to communicate that message than putting Tom Arnold's mug in an advertisement.
